Software Development in New Delhi
smarterwork Expert Yash Sharma is a business manager for a software development company based in New Delhi, India. He talks to smarterwork about his work and the Indian IT market.
Name:Yash Sharma
Occupation: Business Development Manager
Based in: New Delhi, India
Company established: 1995
Website: netsity.com
smarterwork: What does Netsity do and how did it come about?
Yasha Sharma: We provide services in customised software development on diversified platforms and development environments. Our services also include Internet programming and Web site maintenance and promotions. We started with business application development and ventured Web-related programming.
SW: What’s the working climate like in Delhi?
YS: Services are easily and cheaply available here, so domestic clients become very choosey. It is difficult to convince them of the effort and R&D going behind every project. But the IT Industry does enjoy some vendor loyality.
SW: How do you think the market for computer and Internet related work is developing in India?
YS: Two big hurdles for the Interent boom in India has been the lack of infrastructure and the high cost of Internet access. Internet users are now hoping that this will improve, following recent changes in policies. Generally, though, the business climate for IT services has been good in India, mainly due to the edge we have in terms of manpower costs.
SW: How does being smarterwork Expert rate against other ways you normally use to find clients?
YS: I would give it 6 out of 10.
SW: Do you think the Internet is changing people’s working habits?
YS: Yes. People are having to adjust to the demands of offshore work from remote locations. This means more and more people will have to get used to working without direct client interaction, etc. New practices like remote staffing or subcontracting are flourishing.
SW: Do you have any advice for people wishing to work in your field?
YS: The key to success lies in good pre-project planning and nailing down details.
SW: What are your plans for the future?
YS: We wish to continue with our present operation in India while expanding our marketing setup overseas.
